It’s National Assistant Principals Week! Our Putnam County School District leadership team recently celebrated our vice principals and assistant principals with a special treat at the final session of their 23-24 FELS Learning Community.
The 23-24 FELS Learning Community provided an opportunity for these school leaders to engage in professional learning and build a collegial support network. The learning series of four sessions began in September and focused on the new Florida Educational Leadership Standards.
In 2021, a statewide committee of 34 educational leaders drafted new leadership standards using feedback from over 160 stakeholders across the state. The primary goals for the revision process were to align the standards with current research and policy, and clearly delineate between the roles and responsibilities of assistant principals and principals. Named the Florida Educational Leadership Standards, the new standards were adopted by the State Board of Education in October 2022.
In December 2023, our district submitted an updated school administrator evaluation system aligned with the new leadership standards to the Florida Department of Education for their approval. The new evaluation system will be implemented during the 2024-25 school year.
Our vice principals and assistant principals play a vital role in the overall leadership, success, and operations of our schools by providing essential support to the principals, teachers, staff, students, parents, and community. PCSD greatly values the dedication, leadership, and commitment of each of these individuals and the positive, daily impact they have on our students.
