The Putnam County School District proudly celebrated the accomplishments of 21 graduating seniors at the annual Take Stock in Children Senior Recognition Ceremony. The event honored these remarkable students for completing the rigorous mentorship and college-readiness program, and marked the beginning of their next chapter in post-secondary education or career training.
David Rey, CEO of Goodwill of North Florida, was in attendance to offer words of inspiration and encouragement. He warmly welcomed guests and shared how deeply education has impacted his own life, stating, "Education certainly changed my life."
Ms. Martinez, Take Stock in Children Program Coordinator, extended her heartfelt thanks to all in attendance—our seniors, their proud families, volunteer mentors, generous donors, and distinguished guests including Superintendent Dr. Rick Surrency, School Board Member Linda Wagner, Q.I. Roberts Jr.-Sr. High School Assistant Principal Sharice Williams, and Palatka Jr.-Sr. High School Assistant Principal Cindy Bellamy.
The Take Stock in Children program has seen incredible growth in Putnam County—expanding from just 2 students in 2021 to 105 students today. With strong support from Dr. Surrency and district leadership, the program continues to open doors for students across the county.
Each of the 21 seniors recognized has successfully completed the program and earned a 60-credit hour Florida Prepaid Foundation tuition scholarship. They are now preparing to take their next steps in a variety of directions—including enrollment at institutions such as University of Florida, Santa Fe College, St. Johns River State College, Daytona State College, Valdosta State University, and the University of North Florida. Others will pursue apprenticeships with Beck Automotive or proudly serve in the United States Army.
We could not be more proud of these students’ dedication, resilience, and ambition. Each one has a unique path ahead, and we are excited to see the incredible futures they will shape.
A special congratulations goes to Rashean Jones, from Q.I. Roberts Jr.-Sr. High School, who was named Putnam County’s 2025 Take Stock in Children Outstanding Senior. Rashean was presented with a commemorative plaque in recognition of his outstanding achievements.
Each student also received a medallion from their mentor (if present) as a symbol of their commitment and journey through the program.
We celebrate the Take Stock in Children Class of 2025 and look forward to the bright futures ahead for these amazing young leaders. Their journey is just beginning—and the best is yet to come!
