Who We Play For

At PCSD, the health and safety of our students remain a top priority. In partnership with the nonprofit organization Who We Play For, we are excited to offer free electrocardiogram (ECG) heart screenings to all students in grades 7–12 at our high school campuses.

Why Heart Screenings Matter

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is the leading cause of death among student-athletes in the U.S., often striking without warning. Standard physical exams detect only 4% of heart abnormalities, while ECG screenings can increase detection rates to 80–95%. This proactive measure can identify potential cardiac issues early, ensuring the safety and well-being of our students.

Key Benefits of ECG Screenings

  • Early Detection: Identifies potential heart conditions before symptoms appear.

  • Prevention: Reduces the risk of sudden cardiac events during physical activities.

  • Peace of Mind: Provides reassurance to families about their child’s heart health.

About the Screening Process

The screening is quick, painless, and non-invasive, taking less than five minutes. Results will be reviewed by a pediatric cardiologist and shared within 10 business days. If abnormalities are detected, parents will be notified and provided resources for further evaluation.
