In a heartfelt event for Veteran’s Day, Robert H. Jenkins Jr. Elementary School celebrated the service and dedication of our veterans.
Named in honor of local hero Private First Class Robert Henry Jenkins Jr., a U.S. Marine and Medal of Honor recipient, the school hosted veterans, community members, and students in a ceremony reflecting courage, sacrifice, and patriotism.
The ceremony began with a warm welcome from Principal Paula Adams, followed by the Interlachen Jr-Sr High School ROTC presenting the colors. Sixth-grade students led the Pledge of Allegiance and recited the Jenkins Elementary School Pledge, setting a respectful and patriotic tone for the event.
The Veterans Day Honors portion included two heartfelt poems by students Alayna Wilson and Jacqueline Cabon-Sales, along with a special address thanking veterans for their service. Sixth-grade students also recited the Preamble to the Constitution, symbolizing the values veterans uphold.
Following the Veterans Day honors, Principal Paula Adams introduced members of Pfc. Jenkins’ family, sharing a brief biography of the school’s namesake. Sixth-grader Gabriella Barone presented a moving account of Robert H. Jenkins’ life and legacy, which served as a reminder of his sacrifice and bravery. Guest speaker Leo Granger shared words of gratitude and respect, emphasizing the community's appreciation for veterans' contributions.
The dedication of the school was led by Sarajean McDaniel, who expressed the school’s commitment to “Honor the Past, Serve the Present, and Shape the Future.” Mrs. Champion then invited attendees to visit with veterans and the Jenkins family, creating a moment for students and veterans to connect and share stories.
