The Florida Department of Education released the 2024 achievement test scores for all districts on Monday. PCSD leaders are optimistic about the growth observed across many areas. The State Board of Education will be finalizing criteria that determines school and district grades on July 24th.

It's important to note that the scores released this week are preliminary and will undergo further disaggregation. For the purpose of grading schools, only the scores of students who meet all three of these criteria will be considered:

  1. The student was present at the school during the state survey count in October 2023.

  2. The student was present at the school during the state survey count in February 2024.

  3. The student was present at the school during the first day of the assessment window.

These criteria ensure that school grades accurately reflect the performance of students who have consistently attended and participated in assessments throughout the relevant periods.

Dr. Rick Surrency, Superintendent, shared, “The school and district grades are expected to demonstrate positive learning gains in addition to these achievement numbers. This improved data reflects the dedication and effort of our great students, teachers, and staff. We use these crucial metrics for both celebrating achievements and identifying future areas of focus, which is essential for any successful organization.”

Governor DeSantis and state educational leaders have implemented more prompt and frequent assessment results through the adoption of progress monitoring measures. Consequently, students and teachers are actively involved in learning and planning over the summer to ensure a successful start to the upcoming school year. This proactive approach underscores a commitment to continuous improvement and preparedness in the Putnam County School District.
