Interlachen High School cheerleaders are raising funds to participate in the 2016 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.

The invitation to participate in the nationally televised parade came in the mail just before the end of the school year, according to Tricia Taylor, varsity cheerleading coach.

The varsity and junior varsity squads need to raise more than $33,000 by Sept. 15 to participate in the parade. This includes six nights in a hotel, meals, sightseeing activities, uniforms, jackets and bags.

Cheerleaders and coaches are also raising money for transportation costs.

Because the squad was invited by parade organizers, the do not have to audition to participate. They will be learning a new routine for their parade performance. They will march in sync with cheerleaders from around the country, but will be recognized as the Interlachen High School Rams squad.
