Kindergarten students at Kelley Smith Elementary School worked on a two-week unit on farm animals.

At the end of the unit, students enjoyed a farm day during which they viewed and petted chickens, rabbits, pigs and miniature horses.

Students also rotated through stations where they participated in relay races. The stations included a duck pond, stick horse relay, musical chairs and a henhouse egg relay.

Jenkins Middle School Future Farmer of America students, Jimmie Symonds and students’ grandparents brought in the farm animals for the kindergartners.

“The students enjoyed petting the animals, and for some this was the first time they had ever seen a pig or horse up close,” said Suzanne Buckles, media specialist at Kelley Smith.
